Daily Moment of Zen

It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

Adam Smith

Why It Matters:

The father of capitalism basically shrugging and saying, “Yeah, progressive taxes make sense.” Markets reflect this every time there’s chatter about higher corporate or wealth taxes—growth stocks wince, tax-shelter plays smile. For traders, the lesson is simple: policy isn’t about fairness, it’s about flows. If governments squeeze the “rich,” capital doesn’t vanish—it rotates. Sometimes it’s into muni bonds, sometimes offshore accounts, sometimes, conveniently, into the very assets we’re trying to ride. Translation: don’t whine about the tax code—front-run it.
